Frances Mitchell is the Managing Director of Invented.
Frances has a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BE mech), a Masters in Music and Media Technology (MPhil), a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and a Professional Certificate in University Teaching. On graduating from University College Dublin, she worked as a process engineer and production line manager for Procter & Gamble in Amiens, France. Here she managed and trained staff (1000+) in a variety of site-wide technical & motivational projects and managed a team of 50 staff on 11 high volume production lines.
On completing her MPhil, she moved to Catapult Event Management where she managed corporate events. Following this Frances became the CEO of Ireland’s leading contemporary classical music ensemble, Crash Ensemble. During her time with Crash Ensemble she transformed the organisation into a company/charity, built a board of directors, sourced €1.3M in funds (both public and private), more than doubled output, toured to 3 continents, released 2 international albums, maintained stable state funding through a global economic crash, toured nationally, commissioned multiple composers, was broadcast on 3 continents, collaborated with many different art-forms, and ensured a consistently professional output through keen financial management and respectful management of artists.
Since early 2011 Frances has been working in the Innovation Academy. This partnership between UCD and TCD focuses on inspiring entrepreneurial thinking in PhD and postgraduate students. She has taught and mentored 500+ PhD, Postgraduate and Undergraduate students in the areas of creative thinking, opportunity generation & recognition, digital marketing & communications, innovation projects and business development. She also liaises with businesses to source student placement projects (large corporates, SME’s, state bodies, charities and arts organisations). Inspired by her students and the work that happens at the Academy, Frances decided it was time to set up her own business, and so Invented* came into being.

*incidentally, the name 'Invented' came from the Elbow song "Mirrorball" and more specifically the lyric "we kissed like we invented it". I love the lyric and discovered the name is a pretty good way to describe both myself and my new company!
