The internationally acclaimed and award-winning YURODNY embark on a nationwide tour of Ireland this December with their huge repertoire of Balkan dance rhythms, wealth of traditional songs from around the world, and crazed instrumental virtuosity. In Switzerland the press told them that they ‘self-inseminate’. They call it Yurodnification.

Founded in ‘07 by the saxophonist, composer and producer Nick Roth, YURODNY comprise a diverse mix of many of Ireland’s leading musicians from across the musical spectrum. They have travelled widely and performed at numerous major international festivals and venues across Europe. In 2013 so far they headlined the Songlines Encounters Festival in Kings Place, London and toured Scandinavia, Switzerland and the UK. Upcoming projects for 2014 include a new collaboration with virtuoso multi-instrumentalist Stian Carstenson (of Farmers Market fame) and a new Yurodny SciLens record ‘Haivka’ with Ukrainian choral ensemble and electroacoustic composer Alla Zagaykevych.

Performing in Ireland though is the band’s favourite touchstone and this tour sees them reuniting with many old friends and making new ones…their debut Odd Set recording was made at the Glens Centre in Manorhamilton in 2008, and the band has played some notable and riotous dates in Dolans and at Campbell’s Tavern (Evenset Tour, Halloween ’09). They took up a residency at The Grand Social in ’12 and this date on the star-crossed Friday 13th will be in conjunction with Goulash Disco, who will be ensuring a continuation to the Balkan craziness until the small hours. Their last performance in close proximity to the Mermaid Arts Centre was HOPA during the Bray Jazz Festival last May and saw some 27 musicians from 11 countries join together with 500 people on the outdoor stage in the Civic Plaza. This will be their first performance at Café Music Nights in Tullamore and they look forward to performing there on the 5th with Dermot Dunne (previously Yurodnified with Mamoru Fujieda) and Adele O’Dwyer.
